Valentyn Silvestrov (1937)
As Lyatoshinskyi’s successor, Valentyn Silvestrov is considered a
complex personality who, at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century
developed his own unusual world of musical images. It met with a
ambivalent reception, that of admiration but also of incomprehension.
incomprehension. Through avant-garde experiments, he arrived at the “music of the
new simplicity”, which in the 1980s led to a style of music that was described by
Silvestrov called “metamusic”.
